Wow, I have been meaning to post this since all the way back in the fall when I posted the Charlotte’s Web reading question printables. I think it’s safe to say that 2017 was a crazy year for our family, particularly in the fall. Not only was I dealing with chronic migraines and depression, but my daughter first went into the hospital in the late fall.
My migraines are still there and my daughter is still inpatient. It just seems a little lighter of a load this month, though. I think I can say that planning and organizing like crazy had something to do with this. It’s hard to not stay motivated when you’ve got a year of goals and a plan to smash them ahead of you.
Wilbur the Pig Chocolate Cupcakes
I’ve always loved Wilbur the pig. I suppose you could say I’m a little partial since Wilbur has been my son’s nickname since he was a small baby. His sister started calling him that and well, poor kid, it stuck. Even in kindergarten, there were 3 other Williams so rather than being another William he became Wilbur at school too. He’s never been too fond of the name but puts up with us.
The idea for pig cupcakes ( pigcakes? ) was one that bounced around in my head for a while. I knew it would be easy if I stuck to a simple design. Who doesn’t like moist chocolate cupcakes? These could be much more involved if you want to add all of the subtle details of a baby pig. I really like the way our basic Wilbur turned out, though. By piecing together a few common baking items we came up with a pretty cute little pig.
When it comes to fondant I highly suggest getting the colored blocks that you can roll out into a sheet unless you are dead set on a particular color. Of course, for our little pigs, we just needed a standard pink which was easy to pick up at our local grocery. I find that the pre-colored fondant is easier to work with and way quicker than making and/or coloring your own. If you are a beginner with fondant it is absolutely the way to go.
For coloring these chocolate cupcakes I used a fun technique of spray coloring. I hadn’t really tried this method before but I absolutely love the way it looks. It’s perfect for little pink piggies.
