How to Find and Use Your Personal Year Number for 2022

Numerology is a study that deals with the occult significance of numbers.  Through numerology, one can find information about their life, karmic debt, and more by taking a deeper look at the month, day, and sometimes even hour that they were born. Finding your personal year is one way that you can use numerology to help guide you in a way somewhat similar to your horoscope. 

Numerology looks at things in cycles. Most often, these are cycles of 9. Your personal year is calculated by taking a look at these cycles and determining where in the cycle the upcoming year falls for you. Your personal year number can also be helpful to find what planet will be ruling the year for you. Of course, this goes much more in-depth in astrology but your numerology can help you figure out what would be most fruitful for you to focus on for the upcoming year.

How to Calculate Your Personal Year

There are three numbers that you need to know to calculate your personal year for 2022. Luckily, most people will know these numbers right off of the top of their heads. The first number you need is the month that you are born. This is either a one or two-digit number. Secondly, you will need the day that you are born. This too will be a one or two-digit number. Finally, you need the current year, or the year you are trying to calculate if you’d like to take a look back or forward. 

So let’s say we’re calculating a personal year number for a person whose birthday is on December 28th. Their birth year doesn’t come into play for this method. Some methods count the cycle from the birth year to find the current personal year number. However, in this simplified version we’re only looking at the day and month. 

The calculation for this person would go as follows:

12 + 28 + 2022 =

1 + 2 = 3

2 + 8 = 10 ( reduce again until you get a single digit number ) 1 + 0 = 1

2 + 0 + 2 + 2 = 6

Now, add it all together. 

3 + 1 + 6 = 10 then reduce 1 + 0 = 1 

So the personal year number for this person would be 1. 

Note: You want to reduce any double-digit numbers until you get a single-digit number unless you have the numbers 11, 22, or 33. These are Master Numbers and have their own unique meaning. We’ll talk more about that in a minute! 

What Your Personal Year Number Means

Each personal number in numerology represents a part of the 9-year cycle that goes over and over from the year you were born. We don’t all start in year one of the cycle so we are each on our own unique personal year. You can use your personal year number to find what the year ahead may have in store for you or to help you decide what you would do best to focus your energy on throughout the year. 

Personal Year Number One

This is the year of new beginnings. It is a time to move forward with any plans or projects that you may have had on the back burner. This year can be a little slow to get started but can be a welcome change after the end of your previous cycle and year nine the year before. Now is the time for you to sow seeds, set intentions, and start to lay the groundwork for your future. 

Many will feel like a more empowered and confidant version of themselves during year number one. However, on the flip side, some may find that they are feeling more aggressive than usual. It is important to focus on growing your personal goals while also interacting kindly with others. This is also a time that you must accept help from others when needed. 

Personal Year Number Two

Year number two is the year of patience and for being especially mindful of relationships. This is the year that we focus on nourishing those seeds and intentions that we planted in year number one. Networking and making connections are especially important in this year as our community can help us grow into the best version of ourselves. Of course, it’s a great year to focus on starting a new relationship or maybe even expanding your family a little. 

You may experience a feeling of heightened intuition or an increase in sensitivity. This could be related to abilities you already have or even to new ones that you may uncover. At any rate, it’s a good year to pay attention to those gut feelings.

Personal Year Number Three

This is a year of increased social events. You are the center of attention and should be open to any new invitations or opportunities that may come your way. This is a year of open doors, fulfilled aspirations, and heightened popularity. 

However, this is also a year of emotional change. You may find that your creativity is more active than usual. For some, communications skills come to full fruition. You’re able to get your message across and people are happy to hear what you have to say. It is important, however, to not embellish too much to try to impress others, or to overindulge in the attention and privileges you may now be seeing. 

Personal Year Number Four

After all of the fun in year number three, it’s time for more discipline and attention to detail in year number four. You’ve had a taste of success but now is the time to hunker down and put in the work to make it sustainable. It is now that you want to focus on connecting with a higher power, or to what speaks to you. It is also a time to be more accountable because things will not go well for you if you decide to fudge on things. 

It is important to learn to go with the flow and not try to force things. It is also important to keep an eye on your health this year as you may have been neglecting it some in previous years as there were “more important things to do”. 

Personal Year Number Five

All of your devotion and dedication in year four has led to a time of freedom and adventure in year five. You may be feeling a bit leashed after the past few years but now is the time to let free and enjoy all of the work you’ve been putting into things. This is a social year for you and a great time to let your passion for something new drive you to new lands, new people, and new adventures. Perhaps even a new career or partner. 

You need to remember the lessons of previous years though and avoid getting into low energy activities such as gossip, arguing, and drama. You may also find that you are a little more clumsy or accident-prone. 

Personal Year Number Six

Your social year in year five may have led to a new relationship which is a perfect way to go into year number six because this is the year of family. Your focus will be on your home, pets, and everything domestic. There may be a big event this year such as a birth, wedding, divorce, or death. This year rules education so perhaps it’s time to go back to college or even to learn a new hobby?

Year six is also a year of responsibility. This means that it could be one of the best or one of the most emotionally difficult years of your life. It is especially important to be mindful of how you are interacting with the world, and people, around you this year. 

Personal Year Number Seven

This year will require an exceptional understanding of the idea of balance. This year both specialization and self-care will be of major importance. You will need to learn to juggle the two without letting one take over and lead things astray. Now is the time to hone in on what you love and specialize your skills in your preferred field.

Burnout can be an issue in year six which is why self-care is of the utmost importance this year. Learn to set boundaries (with others and with yourself) to grow into your best version of yourself. Spend as much time in nature as possible and foster your curiosity and creativity this year. You never know where it may take you. This is a great year to take a journey into the world of the esoteric or the metaphysical, or to expand your expertise in a particular part of that field.

You may feel a little reclusive this year. Meditation can be a great practice to pursue during year seven to help keep your thoughts well-organized and efficient. 

Personal Year Number Eight

Year number eight is the year that everything starts coming together. This is your year of authority. You’ve honed your skills, gained from insight, and now you are ready to show the world what you’re made of. You will begin to see the fruits of your labor this year. This may cause some issues with authority figures for you ( think boss trouble, perhaps legal issues?) 

Looking at the shape of the number 8 we see a flowing current of change. This can lead to a desire for a complete change in appearance, career, or location. It can also represent a potential change in outlook or mood. Balance will be a key player this year to help you make it through unscathed. 

Personal Year Number Nine

The final year of the 9-year cycle, this is the year of completion. You will start to see the benefits from your efforts through this cycle. This is a time to tie up loose ends and release anything that just wasn’t meant for you. It’s best to avoid starting any new endeavors this year as it is unlikely that they will come to fruition. 

You may have to deal with relationships or health issues that will test your courage and strength. However, negative situations will start to amend themselves during this year. Your main focus this year should be to tie up any loose ends, find closure, and heal where necessary. You now need to prepare yourself to start the cycle anew. Thankfully, each time we return to the beginning of the cycle ( or perhaps more aptly called spiral ) we bring with us the knowledge we gained during the previous one.

The Planets That Rule Each of the Personal Year Numbers

The number one is ruled by the sun. This planet identifies with strong leadership skills, This planet exhibits strong will and a heightened appreciation of positivity. Those with this planet as their personal year number will feel more driven, both in personal endeavors and in their career. They will find it easy to traverse any blocks that may have been in their way in previous years. 

The number two is ruled by the moon. In contrast with the sun, this planet is more focused on a softer, gentler approach to life. This planet invites us to focus on kindness and perhaps even a little passivity. This is a year that will increase your creativity but will also increase your emotional experience. 

The number three is ruled by Jupiter. This year is thought of as one with great potential for spirituality. It is often seen as a lucky year and one in which we will see our personality grow. This will be a year to focus on balance and intuition of mind, body, and spirit.

The number eight is ruled by Saturn. This is a very intense planet. It can point to struggles or obstacles that will need to be passed. Some find the eighth personal year to be one of emotional turmoil while others find it to be a time of inspiration.   

The number nine is ruled by the planet Mars. This is an altruistic planet. It is a year to be selfless and use what you’ve learned during this cycle to be helpful to others. However, it is important to not let this lead philanthropy lead to issues with ego.

Master Numbers and Special Cases in Your Numerology

Three numbers are not reduced to a single digit when you are calculating things in numerology. These numbers are 11, 22, and 33. There are a few other special cases but these are the three that will be most common in finding the personal year number.  These numbers are representations of individuals with some sort of “sage” presence. These will be the teachers, builders, and leaders. 

Any master numbers in your numerology chart should be taken into consideration in combination with the personal year number that you get when you do the calculation. 

Master Numer 11

The master number 11 is a number of enhanced intuition and perceptive abilities. This is a highly spiritual number that invites you to lean into hunches to develop your enhanced abilities in this area. These abilities can lead to increased anxiety, depression, and other mental health struggles. There can also be issues with physical ailments that may come with that depression and anxiety such as headaches, muscle pain, and even gastrointestinal ailments. Overthinking can easily become your worst enemy so it is important to be mindful and keep your thoughts in check. 

Master Number 22

The master number 22 is all about productivity and getting things done. As the master builder, this is an energy that allows you to finish any projects you may begin. However, it can cause you to push yourself farther than you should and to deal with burnout more than others around you. Self-care should be a priority when there is 22 energy in your chart. You can be a bit of a perfectionist and can put yourself down when things don’t go as planned. Learning to be kinder to yourself will help you to grow and achieve your goals. 

Master Number 33

The master number 33 is a number of truth and knowledge. This number is thought of as the Master Teacher. The energy of this number is creative, kind, but also overly critical and at times a bit judgemental. This number can represent a power to inspire others which is often put to use for the greater good of humanity. This is an altruistic number, one that focuses on helping enhance the growth of others and themselves.
