Holiday Double Chocolate M&M Cookies

double chocolate cookie recipe

I mentioned on my Instagram the other day that I was working on a holiday edition of a recipe for M&M cookies. I’ve been perfecting the recipe for double chocolate M&M cookies for a while now but today is the day. This M&M cookie recipe has found a permanent home in my kitchen because of the versatility of these cookies. I might even have to do a chocolate mint version of them ( with mint M&Ms!)

I get a little too excited about new cookie recipe ideas. As much as I love cupcakes I have to say that cookies have a special place in my heart. They are such a quick and easy handmade treat for after school, weekends, and every once in a while breakfasts.

I love being able to have freshly made cookies waiting in the cookie jar to be eaten. With these holiday M&M cookies, just a simple change of the candy used can adapt them to any holiday or season. The M&M store offers color packs to match any event or even team colors for after practice cookies.

Double Chocolate Holiday Cookies

The chocolate pudding mix is definitely the star of these M&M cookies. It both helps as a rising agent and gives the cookies a silky chocolate texture. It is absolutely delicious and the perfect chocolate match to the candy used.

Vanilla, strawberry, or even banana pudding mix can be used for this recipe to tailor the cookies to your recipe. I can think of about a million combinations I want to try.

These super chocolatey holiday cookies are an instant kid favorite.

  • 3/4 C packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 C turbinado sugar
  • 3/4 C unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 C chocolate instant pudding mix
  • 2 C organic flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 C holiday M&M candies

  1. Combine butter, sugars, egg, and vanilla in the bowl of a stand mixer. Mix for 2-3 minutes on medium until you have a smooth blend.
  2. In a separate bowl sift flour. Add pudding mix and baking soda. Stir with a whisk until fully blended.
  3. Add flour mixture into sugar mixture while mixing with paddle attachment. ( I prefer the whisk attachment for mixing butter/sugars. I don't know if it is the right one to use, but I like it )
  4. Continue to blend until a soft ball begins to form. Fold M&M candies into the dough with a spatula.
  5. Chill dough in fridge for 1-2 hours.
  6. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. While your oven is preheating set your dough out to warm up slightly. This will make it easier to scoop out but still chilled enough to not spread out too much.
  7. Using a cookie scoop make 12 balls on cookie sheet. Flatten each cookie slightly with the bottom of a glass ( or your palm if you are impatient like me ). Press leftover candy pieces in any plain spots on the cookies.
  8. Bake 10-13 minutes. ( Watch them closely as oven times differ. ) Cool in pan for 10 minutes and transfer to rack to finish cooling completely.
