We all have certain brands or companies that we love. Maybe you prefer natural products or only make gluten free foods. Maybe you are a die hard chocolate lover. Regardless of what your passion is there are companies who want to hear what you have to say, and there are many who will pay you for that opinion.
There are two routes that you can take when it comes to looking for those companies. You can contact the brand yourself using a media kit, or you can go through an agency that will do all of the negotiating for you. In general, the latter is a better idea if you are just starting out.
No, don’t worry. You’re never too small of a blog for a company to pay attention to you. The key is that you have to be able to clearly present your case for why YOU are the perfect voice for their brand.
Contacting Brands for Sponsored Posts
One of the most important things to have in your corner when you are contacting a brand or company that you would like to work with is a media kit. This includes your social media presence, your current blog analytics, any previous work you have done, and your personal branding.
It is important to really tell your story through your description of your site and your branding. This lets brands know who you are and what unique perspective you have to offer rather than being just another blogger.
Think of it this way. Would you be more interested in Roberta the cat wrangler from Texas or Roberta with a blog? Really let them know why you are someone they want to know more about.
On the flip side, it is important to keep it short and to the point. Often you only have a short time to make a first impression that counts.
Working with a Company for Sponsored Posts
There are a number of different companies that act as a middleman for publishers and companies. Some have requirements such as page views or niches. Others only work with particular social media accounts.
Finding the right company to work with can be a little time consuming, but extremely worth the effort. The majority of my blogging income comes from sponsored posts at this time.
Linqia: My personal favorite company to work with is Linqia. They have a platform that is easy to use as well as fantastic support for those working on their campaigns.
Massive Sway: Massive Sway is the advertising company for the SITS girls. they offer a variety of campaigns for lifestyle, parenting, food, and other related niches.
Blog Meets Brand: A great company for sites that don’t fit into the lifestyle niche is Blog Meets Brand. I have always found the opportunities from this company to be unique and interesting.
Activate: This is the influencer marketing program through Bloglovin. They regularly have a wide variety of sponsored opportunities.
BrandBacker: For makeup and beauty bloggers, BrandBacker is an excellent choice. However, they have plenty of campaigns for other niches as well.
Cooperatize : This company requires that you have 1,000 page views per month and 1,000 twitter followers to qualify for campaigns. However, they have some great opportunities available if you meet these requirements.
Heartbeat: This company works entirely with Instagram. They can be a great option for female bloggers who have a strong presence there.
Find Your Influence: Another company that works with a variety of home and family based sites.
Collabor8: Collabor8 is an app that works as a go between to facilitate conversations between influencer and brands, or other influencers!
There are a variety of other companies. however, these are the more well-known ones and ones that I have personal experience working with and can recommend.
Influence Central – I have found this one to be particularly good for mom blogs. They tend to have a lot of campaigns for products for both moms and children. It is also a great one for foodies!
Intellinfluence – I always see the most unique opportunities on this platform. They can range from free products to well paid posts that are available on a variety of topics.
Social Native – This is another great one for moms and family bloggers. They have a wide variety of posts focused primarily towards families. If you have a strong parenting audience I highly recommend this one!
Influence.co – I really like this one because it allows you to set up a profile with rates and past work for brands to find you. It also allows you to find other influencers and brands to learn more about what brands are looking for and what is popular in your niche.
Ahology – Yet another great one for parent bloggers. They offer tons of different posts for brands that resonate with moms and families. They also have an awesome tool called Muse that lets you track trending topics and better focus your blog posts toward industry trends.
Free Products for Sponsored Posts
Some companies are excellent for those brand new to the blogging world to help build a portfolio. They offer a chance to review products in exchange for free swag. This can range from makeup to drones and much more.
Influenster: I have had so much fun working with this company. I started on a whim and haven’t looked back since. Each of their boxes of products is like Christmas morning.
BzzAgent: Another great company for free products in exchange for reviews is BzzAgent. While influenster focuses more on beauty items I have found that BzzAgent has a number of home and health items. However, it’s really up in the air as to what you will qualify to receive from either.
Tomoson: This company has both sponsored posts and posts that are available for free or discounted products. I have found that this one can be hit or miss but there are some great opportunities there for sure.
Regardless of the direction, you decide to take with it you will find that influencer marketing can be both fun and rewarding.
